It is said that by 2050 the amount of plastic in the ocean will outweigh the fish in the ocean. This statistic is shocking, isn’t it? We all need to replace simple items we use in our everyday lives with environmentally friendly products to have a large impact.
Based on my travel recently, I am compiling a list of products which are easy to carry and use when required and will help us in reducing our environmental footprint.
- Reusable Bamboo Cutlery
This can be ordered online from Amazon. And carrying it with us while we travel outstation or local is probably the easiest way we can help reduce waste. They are light weight, reusable, more hygienic than what we get in restaurants.
2. Reusable Bamboo or steel straw
Bamboo straws can be ordered from here and Steel straws can be ordered from here. Carrying them with us every time we step out, can significantly reduce the number of waste straws floating as trash. This is a must have when travelling with kids. Again, they are light weight and reusable.
3. Water Bottle/Thermas
Try these thermal flasks if you are looking for a container to carry warm or cold water with you. Flasks keep the water warm or cold throughout the day. It is easy to carry a flask anywhere with you as it is handy and portable. It mostly comes in use while you are travelling and have a sensitive throat. In that case, you will always need a bottle of warm water as you can’t carry a kettle with you everywhere.
4. Foldable and Reusable shopping bags
Carrying some extra shopping bags while stepping out of the house saves a lot of unnecessary bags coming entering our homes and lying useless and finally entering the waste being dumped into oceans.
5. Reusable snack bags
They come in handy when we have to rush out and carry some bite foods or munchies for us for the travel time. Homemade paper bags can be used for this purpose too or any zip lock bags lying at home can be taken along. Again, very easy to carry, light weight and helps in reducing our carbon foot print in a small yet effective way.
This a small list of products which are a must for any kind of travel and we can keep them in our bags/purse all the time so that we don’t need to worry about picking them while rushing out of our home.
